The Washington Commanders continue to remain busy in free agency. After agreeing to terms with EDGE K'Lavon Chaisson, tight end Chig Okonkwo and safety Nick Cross earlier on Wednesday, the Commanders added yet another defender. Per ESPN's Adam Schefter, Washington reached a one-year, $7 million agreement with Kansas City Chiefs defensive lineman Charles Omenihu.

The 6-foot-5, 280-pound Omenihu entered the NFL as a fifth-round pick of the Houston Texans in the 2019 NFL Draft. During his third season with the Texans, Omenihu was dealt to the San Francisco 49ers, where he finished the 2021 season and played there in 2022. In 2023, Omenihu signed with the Chiefs, where he spent the past three seasons.

Over the course of his seven-year NFL career, Omenihu has appeared in 95 games, making 12 starts. He has 129 tackles, including 21 for loss, 23 sacks, and 66 quarterback hits. The 28-year-old is the perfect rotational piece for new defensive line coach Daronte Jones because of his versatility. Jones can play outside or kick inside and play defensive tackle.

Omenihu is the fifth front-seven player to sign with Washington this week, joining Oweh. Tim Settle, Chaisson, and Leo Chenal. Omenihu and Chenal were teammates in Kansas City.
