The Pittsburgh Steelers have locked up a franchise cornerstone for an additional year.
AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementAccording to ESPN, veteran defensive tackle Cameron Heyward has agreed to a one-year contract extension with the Steelers. Heyward's contract was set to expire and he was slated for free agency following the 2026 season, now that timeframe will be pushed back by a year.

Heyward's contract is now a two-year deal worth $32.25 million, with $16.25 million fully guaranteed.
It makes sense that the Steelers wanted to lock Heyward up for an additional year given the fact that he's still playing the game at a high level despite the fact that he'll turn 37 before the start of the season.
AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementHeyward was named a Second-Team All-Pro in 2025 after starting all 17 games for Pittsburgh and recording 78 combined tackles, 9 QB hits, 9 tackles for a loss, 6 passes defended and 1 forced fumble.
The 2026 season will be unique for Heyward, as it will be his first time playing for a head coach other than Mike Tomlin, who was the man in charge throughout Heyward's tenure with the team.
In addition to extending Heyward, the Steelers have also made some moves to bolster their offensive attack. They signed running back Rico Dowdle in free agency and traded for wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr. from the Indianapolis Colts.
