The Pittsburgh Steelers' newest free agent signing has a connection to new head coach Mike McCarthy.

The $2.5 million signing played for McCarthy when he was the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys.

The contract was reported Tuesday night by insider Jordan Schultz -- it's interior offensive lineman Brock Hoffman signing a one-year deal with Pittsburgh.

The 6-foot-4 Hoffman, who is 26 years old, was an undrafted player after spending his college career first at Coastal Carolina and then at Virginia Tech.

He had spent all four seasons of his NFL career with the Cowboys.

He started 14 games over the past two seasons, and 16 overall.

Hoffman appeared in just three games in 2022. In 2023, it was two starts across a full 17-game slate.

He played all 17 games again in 2024 and in 2025, starting seven games in each of those two seasons.

Hoffman has added value thanks to his ability to play center, left guard and right guard. Now, he's bringing that versatility to the Steelers.

He's not the type of signing that grabs a lot of headlines, but in a long NFL season where linemen injuries are common, he can be incredibly useful.

It's a nice bit of business for the Steelers.
