In a move that'll shock no one, former Eagles third-string quarterback Sam Howell has agreed to a one-year deal with the Cowboys. The Eagles have a factory, and Tanner McKee could again be the most valuable asset heading into the 2026 free agency and NFL draft frenzy. Jalen Hurts is the unquestioned start, and he'll again have a new offensive coordinator after the Eagles fired Kevin Patullo and hired Sean Mannion.
The Eagles were familiar with Howell's body of work. They did extensive research on him during the 2022 draft process and witnessed his strengths first-hand when Howell played for the Commanders. In the two games that Howell started against Philadelphia, he recorded a 107.2 passer rating, throwing for 687 yards, five touchdowns, and one interception.
In a move that was supposed to provide insurance for Tanner McKee, the Eagles traded for Vikings quarterback Sam Howell. The Howell trade came hours after former Eagles second overall pick, Carson Wentz, worked out for Minnesota ahead of the roster cuts. The fourth-year QB didn't play any regular-season snaps.
